Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Heal from Trauma with TF-CBT

Traumatic experiences—whether recent or from the past—can leave lasting emotional and psychological effects. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based approach designed to help children, teens, and adults process trauma safely, reduce distress, and build coping skills.

TF-CBT can help with:

  • Trauma and PTSD symptoms

  • Anxiety and depression related to trauma

  • Behavioral challenges stemming from traumatic experiences

  • Difficult emotions such as guilt, shame, or fear

  • Strengthening coping skills for stress and emotional regulation

How TF-CBT Works

TF-CBT combines traditional cognitive behavioral therapy with trauma-sensitive interventions. In sessions, a licensed therapist helps you or your child safely explore trauma-related memories, feelings, and thoughts. The therapy includes teaching coping skills, gradual exposure to distressing memories in a safe environment, and building strategies to process and reframe experiences. TF-CBT often involves both individual and caregiver components to provide support for the whole family.

What to Expect in a Session

Sessions are structured, supportive, and tailored to your needs. You’ll learn tools to manage distress, explore thoughts and feelings about trauma, and practice strategies to improve emotional regulation and resilience. TF-CBT provides a safe space to heal while empowering you to regain control over your life.
